Accessibility Statement for fish.hants.gov.uk

Hampshire County Council is committed to making its Family Information and Services Hub website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is run by Hampshire County Council, and this accessibility statement applies to the Family Information and Services Hub only (fish.hants.gov.uk). This accessibility statement does not apply to the wider hants.gov.uk domain.

This website is run by Hampshire County Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also tried to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:

  • some content such as images and icons do not have alt-text embedded
  • some online maps and mapping services cannot be easily navigated
  • some pages and documents are not clearly written or structured
  • some videos do not have captions
  • Our news reel can only show a set amount of vertical space for the news carousel to include 3 lines of text and an image.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • There are issues with our SEN Support Handbook for Schools. This fails the WCAG 1.4.3, 2.4.2, 1.1.1 and 1.3.1 requirements. This document is scheduled for a more in depth review, and a new, accessible version will be published by September 2024.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services and statutory information, and forms published as Word documents.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or other documents we publish will meet accessibility standards. Where we are unable to publish accessible documents we will provide alternative methods to access this information.

We plan to fix any remaining issues with documents or replace them with accessible HTML pages as we review the content on our website.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Third party content

Where we choose to feature third party content or functionality on our website, we are responsible for ensuring it meets accessibility standards. However, we are not responsible for the accessibility of third party platforms or content that is neither funded nor developed by us, or under our control. This includes:

  • third party websites that we link to from this website and any of our other digital channels
  • social media platforms
  • data we supply to national databases
  • third party content we are legally required to publish but is not in the control of Hampshire County Council
