Supporting pupils at school with medical condition

The Government have produced a report which gives guidance about the support that pupils with medical conditions should receive at school.

The local authority must have regard to this guidance when making arrangements to support these pupils at school and also any activities taking place off-site as part of normal educational activities.

The key points of this guidance are that:

* Pupils at school with medical conditions should be properly supported so that they have a full and active role in all aspects of school life including access to education, school trips and physical education.

* Governing bodies must make sure that arrangements are in place in schools to support pupils at school with medical conditions.

* Governing bodies should make sure that school leaders consult with health and social care professionals, pupils and parents to ensure that the needs of children with medical conditions are properly understood and effectively supported
