If your child has a physical disability, a hoist may be needed when it is no longer safe for you to lift them.
Your Occupational Therapist (OT) will be able to provide advice on suitable hoists for your situation.
Mobile hoists are ones that are not fixed to the ceiling and can be moved from room to room. They do however take up quite a lot of floor space. You may be able to loan one from the Hampshire County Council equipment stores, which you can do through your OT.
A ceiling hoist is fixed to the ceiling and moves along a track. They usually only cover one room and allow transferring from wheelchair to bed for example. If you are assessed as needing a ceiling hoist, this is likely to be funded through a disabled facilities grant (DFG)
