Working: Your Rights

Your legal rights when working and caring

As a working parent with a disabled child, you may have a legal right to take time off (Parental Leave) in certain circumstances. You may also be able to request a change in your working week (Flexible Working) to help you juggle your work and caring responsibilities. You should also be protected from discrimination because of your caring responsibilities.

For the purposes of this information, a disabled child is one for whom a parent is receiving disability living allowance.

Carers UK have a lot of useful information about Rights to Flexible Working, Getting Support at Work, Thinking of Leaving Work and Getting back into Employment.
