Education Centres / Alternative Provision
Hampshire has seven Education Centres (EC) known elsewhere as Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) for KS3 and KS4.
Places are commissioned for either pupils who are:
- permanently excluded,
- those at risk of permanent exclusion and
- for pupils with medical needs or who are emotional vulnerable and not able to attend mainstream school.
Schools make individual pupil referrals to the local authority and places are commissioned according to agreed criteria.
Education Centres are not destinations but intended as short-term ‘turn around’ centres with pupils either returning to a mainstream school or elsewhere as appropriate.
Hampshire County Council does not commission EC places for KS1 and KS2 as pupils as schools are supported by the Primary Behaviour Service.
