How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Little Sunlights works closely with the outside agencies and professionals, such as the Health Visitors,  Speech and Language Therapist, ISSO ( Incusion Setting Support Officers) or Portage.

If you think your child may have special educational needs, speak to the child's Key Person or  Nursery Senco. The Nursery then will have an initial chat with you and with your permission, arrange for other professionals to come and see you and your child.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

Your child will have their Key Person. The Key Person works closely with families and gives them a day to day feedback of what the child has been doing in the Nursery. Little Sunlights Team assess children every month and agrees on the child's next steps together with families.

The Team are always there if family or the child needs any support.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

The setting assess the children according to the Birth to Five ( age ranges).

The children are assessed by the Team

Each child is treated as an individual as they develop at their own path.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

We will help you to support your child's learning through providing you with plenty of Home Learning ideas.

The Team will discuss your child's progress with you on a daily basis.

Each term your child will be assessed by their Key Person and their next steps will be agreed with you.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We have Didi Dance sessions every Tuesday morning to support children's mental health and general well being.

We have a Nature Nursery which we visit on a daily basis, where the children enjoy exploring the nature as well as grow flowers and vegetables.

We go out to community to visit the nearby care home, to the library as well as other places ( bank, shop, train station, etc.)

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

ISSO ( Inclusion setting support officer )

Portage

Speech Therapists

Early Help Hub

Health Visitors

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

Senco Induction training ( 1 Senco in the setting)

Regular Senco support group meetings

Key Person training and Managing Behaviour training  for all team

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

All children take part in the learning experiences we provide, including outings.

The Team go out and about with the children on a daily basis and all the children take part in the outings.

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

1. There are two disabled car park spaces designed for the Nursery pick up and drop off.

2. The Nursery entrance is fully accessible ( clear path to the main door, no steps)

3. The Nursery is on one level.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

The Nursery Team will work closely with the infant/primary school your child will be starting in September.

The Over 3 specialist will make contact with the teacher / Senco and ask them to visit your child at our setting.

The Nursery team will be happy to assist you during some settling sessions at school ( if required).

The Key Person will discuss child's development with their future teacher. The Over 3 Report ( includes your child's development , likes and dislikes, details on time spent in the nursery) will be shared with you and sent to the feeder school before your child starts in September.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

All areas of the Nursery are well equipped with a range of Early Years’ resources to support the children’s learning needs. These resources are regularly reviewed and if additional specialist needs are identified these will be looked into on an individual basis.

All activities are based around the children's indivdual interests and needs.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

We will help you to support your child's learning through providing you with plenty of Home Learning ideas .

The Team will discuss your child's progress with you on a daily basis. Each term your child will be assessed by their Key Person and their next steps will be agreed with you.

If, at any point, either you or the Nursery Team will decide your child needs more support, The Nursery Senco will contact the ISSO and ask them to come in, observe the child and advise the family/Nursery Team on appropriate next steps.

These could be either contacting other professionals or simply providing more support for your child within the setting.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

All families are fully involved in the Nursery life. The Nursery Team organize various open days during the year ( Teddy Bear picnic, Open Day. Christmas Sing Song, Mother's and Father's Days, so that the families can spend some time in the Nursery and see what learning experiences are provided for their children.

All Nursery daily events are put for families on Famly. The Nursery Team regularly gives out questionnaires to the families to help them review the practice and improve the setting.
