- How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?
If a concern has not already been disclosed to us about a child before they attend Bidbury Preschool, the process would then start once your child began attending the setting. Upon your child's confirmation of place here at Bidbury Preschool they will be allocated a key worker, that key worker will work closely with the child and their family to create a baseline of their development through background knowledge, observation and reporting.
If you feel that your child may have special educational needs, please feel free to talk to any member of staff at the preschool to air your concerns.
- How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
Through our observations and ongoing assessment of the children within the setting, if we identified that your child was not meeting their milestones we would discuss with you first in order to put in place an Individual Educational Plan. To create an Individual Educational Plan for your child, their key worker and would have evidence through observations, reports and background Knowledge, in order to identify specific needs and goals for your child. Through close communication with you the child's parents, the SENCO would then direct the family to any outside support that was needed and start the referral process to any service required i.e Speech and Language Therapist, Portage, Occupational Therapist, Hearing Impairment Teacher. We would always seek to gain parents consent before referring to another professional. Once an Individual Educational Plan was in place the SENCO and your child's keyworker would continually monitor and assess it to ensure it is effective and current for your child's interests and needs using observation tools such as unique targets, access, plan, do and review. Your child Key worker will identify next steps relevant and unique to your child with target points to reach an end goal.
To ensure all the staff at Bidbury Preschool are up to date with current knowledge and information our SENCO attends regular Inclusion Coordinator support groups.
- How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
Our Curriculum is fully adaptable to different ages and stages of development. Through your child Individual Educational Plan we would be able to select targets that were realistic and attainable to suit their needs and interests.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
As a setting we use Tapestry to record Observations that you as a parent will have access to, you will be able to see what your child has been achieving whilst in the setting, We also meet with parents once a term for parents consolations. Outside of these times We are also available at any time via phone, email or on the door at pick up or drop off to speak to for any concerns or just an update. Once you child has been identified as having a Special Educational Need then you will be in close communication with your child key worker and the settings SENCO through regular meetings and communications. As your child's parent you know you child best so you will always be involved with your child planning.
- What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
All Staff at Bidbury Preschool have Paediatric First Aid Qualifications. We have policies and Procedures in place to ensure that the Well being of all children in attendance is at the for front of our setting. These are available for your viewing at your request.
Key workers aim to provide a secure base for your child and get to know them, their families and their homelife. As a setting we have a set of Preschool Values which we embed in your children and strive to ensure their emotional needs are met, whilst building resilience, to ensure your child is always happy in preschool.
We complete daily risk assessments of our environment to ensure we have a secure and safe place for your child to thrive.
- What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
During the application process when we get to know you and your child, if you have shared that your child has a particular need we will ensure that if we have not already received training in that area we will arrange it promptly to ensure you child's needs are best met if our current situation allows. Professionals work regularly alongside us within the setting. Professionals that we work regularly with include but not limited to:

- How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
Our setting is fully inclusive, any activity on offer is designed to be adapted for any individual within the setting. We ensure that all children have access to all the resources on offer and activity's we have within the setting. Our staff work closely with the children at all times to ensure that they are safe, secure and happy. We complete daily risk assessments and this extends to our off site activity's to ensure all children can access what we have on offer. We always work to the legal Ratios as identified by the Early Years Foundation Stage to keep the children safe. If you have any concerns dependant on your child individual needs we would always work with you to reach a safe decision around any activity or trip.
- How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?
All the areas of the setting are accessible to all of the children in attendance. As new children start with us here we continually review the setting and its resources to ensure it is suitable for all. We are a charity run preschool who rely heavily on donations and fundraising but we would always strive to make sure we have any resources or equipment needed to support your child's education and growth.
- How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
Before you child starts with us at Bidbury Preschool, we will gather as much information from you as we can about your child, as know one knows your child better than you. At this time you will have opportunity to discuss any concerns or worries you may have and then we can work with you to put in place any extra help as necessary. We offer visits with yourself to the preschool, and gradual induction sessions. Children are welcome to come to Bidbury Preschool with a comforter to help the feel secure whilst settling in. when it comes to the time that your child is going to transfer we will work closely with the school/setting and follow their transition policy. We will share any information that we have on your child with regards to their time with us and their development, along with any other professionals that have been involved with your child. When it is appropriate we aim to have a team meeting to ensure the new setting/school is aware of your child's needs, our SENCO, your child's key worker, other professionals and yourself would be invited to join this meeting to share a wider base of knowledge.
Because we are located within Bidbury Infant school our transitions are seamless due to out continued involvement with the school and the staff throughout the year.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
If your child has a significant individual need, and qualifies for additional funding (a process of which you would be apart of) this money will be allocated to the preschool via the Early Years Educator Grant. This money would then be spent on meeting the needs of your child. This can be in various ways, resources, specialised equipment, 1:1 staff member.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
Before you child starts with us at Bidbury Preschool, we will gather as much information from you as we can about your child, their likes and dislikes, what they like doing etc, as know one knows your child better than you. Through observations and assessments we will gather a picture of your child which will in turn decide on relevant steps to take with regards to their development. Your child's Individual Educational Plan will have specific, achievable targets working towards their long term goals. These are continually monitored and reviewed by your child's key worker, the SENCO and yourself.
- How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
Parents are welcomed into the setting and encouraged to participate with our learning and activities, we have a good home link and communicate via tapestry and our Facebook page with weekly updates. We have an annual Preschool trip which parents are invited to join us on, We have a walk and talk notice board, daily communication at the door, and parent consultations to name but a few.
