Early Years (0-4 years)
How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

Will carry out records and after sitting with parents/carers and identifying the needs of the individual, will come up with actions plans to support the individual within the nursery. Providing different aids to help with certain areas of their development. Form strong positive relationships with Parents/carers and child, making comfortable and confident. We will also carry out regular update meetings with parent/carer, to discuss worries, concerns and development.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

Depending on the needs of the child all activities etc. within nursery will be adapted to be able to include each individual. By having a Keyworker and other adults within the room who know the individual we will be able to cater for the needs of the child. Documents such as action plans and assessment forms will be carried out alongside general records and reflecting on progress etc.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

We keep regular observations and records on each child showing their progress and general development. There will be regular parent and setting meetings to discuss support needed or general development and updates. We will adapt any activities or general routines if they affect the needs of the child. Action plans will help identify and put In place targets and how we are going to achieve them with the individual and move onto the next steps.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

By forming strong bonds and having many settle in visits with a Key person, the child can become familiar with an adult, and feel secure whilst at nursery. By having a Key person, that adult will know the child and his/her needs and be able to enforce appropriate actions to cater for them. Within the setting, we make sure the well being of all our children is being looked after and they are all cared for in any way that suits them. The documents such as action plans, progress reports, and general observations will show the development and other additional needs for any individuals, this will help us cater for their overall wellbeing.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

There are many services we can work with in partnership within our setting, and depending on the needs of an individual can set up meetings and then from there make plans to support the individual. We have in the past worked with Social services, Portage workers, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language specialists and lots more. If there are any other services that may need to be introduced we will be able to contact them for support.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

All staff within the setting are trained in childcare and learning, and have knowledge about different disabilities or Special education needs, as well as having staff dedicated to SEN and having specialised training. Many staff members also have knowledge of simple makaton and carry this out in routines etc.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

Every activity being carried out will be adapted to cater for each individual depending on their needs, adding in extra provisions if needed to make it easier for the individual to participate. During outings there will be supervision at all times and again depending on the needs of the individual possible 1-1 supervision.

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

The setting is very near the city of Winchester and less than a 20 minute walk from the train station. The setting itself has wheelchair access, and accessible facilities to provide personal care.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

Before your child starts within the setting we will make sure there are lots of meetings and settling in visits to make sure the child is comfortable with the staff and the setting. Depending on the visits and how they go, we will schedule in more to suit the individuals. This is the same with moving to another setting or with a change in environment or routine. We will carry out activities to support and make changes positive, whilst adapting to suit needs.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

Depending on the needs of the individual, within the setting, we will look at what provisions and resources would be needed and helpful to the needs of the child, and then if needed to be found and sourced, may be provided by outside agencies. Or us as a company will source it ourselves to make sure the individual has the best chance and resources to develop.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

Decisions will be made along side the parent/carer within the setting usually in a meeting. There it will be discussed any worries or concerns that the parent/carer or setting may have. No services or outside agencies are usually called unless this is approved by the parent/carer so its a workable and positive relationship an environment for the parent/carer and child. We will inform you of the choices at present for the child, based on knowledge from trained staff, and experience.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Our setting have open days, and stay and plays for the parents to come in and have at look at all the wonderful provisions and activities we carry out. And also have meet and greet sessions where parents can air their concerns or suggestions. There are meetings with key workers before a child first starts the nursery so the parent and child can become familiar and feel comfortable in the rooms, and always daily handovers where information can be given if wanted/needed. We welcome parent involvement and new ideas.
