How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

Together we can develop any strategies that we all agree on, how to support your child in the setting. You can approach the SENCO or key person at any time for the progress and information on your child's development and we can regularly review the strategies that are in place. All staff will be made aware of the strategies and how we are going to implement them. The SENCO will help plan and oversee the support and progress of the work. Help will be offered to the parents/carers on how to implement these strategies at home of if certain strategies are used at home we can work together to adapt them for the setting. We can seek advice on what is the best agencies to support you as a family. As we are a small setting a key person will be allocated to your child on starting at Swan. The key person will work with the SENCO to ensure best outcomes for your child. Learning Strategies will be regularly reviewed and amended if needed. The setting has a good relationship with our Local Inclusion Officer; she is always available to us to help us gain any extra knowledge we may need regarding a medical condition. The staff will undertake any extra and relevant training we may need.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

Using your child's strengths and interests is really important to plan learning strategies, we will use thse along side educational plans and individual behaviour plans. We will use clearm achievable SMART targets. These will be set and reviewed, this will enable your child to learn at their own pace. These will be monitored and adpated if needed.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

We will pass on any relevant information to you on a daily basis and we will encourage parents to do the same. We have an open door policy and we would encourage all parents to discuss needs, development and achievements with us. Your child's learning Journals is available for you to come in and review at any time you would like, your child's key person will invite you in on a regular basis o review and assess your child's development. We will do this by using our observations, summary of development plans and any other evidence gathered. We will work with any relevant agencies and parents to develop a statement of educational needs if your child requires it.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We all work very closely at Swan and have a very good working relationship. We strongly believe that having this relationship helps us to get to know your child really well and helps us identify any help that is needed quicker. Different children react differently to different adults, but with our friendly atmosphere all the children have a good relationship with all the staff. Attendance is very important. We will work with all parents to ensure the child is in the setting as much as possible. If we felt a session was too long we would look at ways to reduce this slightly to help the child and ease a parents anxieties.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

All staff has had first aid training. Two have epi pen training. We offer small group times to help with speech and language; all children take part in this so no child feels singled out. We work closely with physiotherapists, paediatricians, speech and language and portage. The preschool can work closely with any external agencies that may be relevant to your child. We can work with Behaviour management intervention, health and social care, GPs, school nurse, speech and language, occupational therapists, locality team and educational psychologists.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

All staff are continuously updating their knowledge and training information being cascaded to other staff members at staff meetings.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

>Risk assessments are carried out before any trip away from the setting is carried out and all children are welcome and parents invited to attend. A first aid kit, drinks, any medication your child may need and the works mobile phone with all emergency contact details will be taken. Activities will be adapted so all children can take part; child to adult ratios will be adhered too.

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

Swan has a step at the front door and back door. All rooms are on the ground floor. There are nappy changing facilities in the bathroom. The garden area is covered in artificial grass. We offer sensory play for the children, play dough, pasta, rice, material, water, etc. Visual signs around the setting help children to find resources

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

We encourage all new children to visit the setting prior to starting. We arrange small visits for the child to get used to our setting. For any child with additional needs, we would encourage extra visits so the child feels comfortable and secure with us. When children are preparing to leave Swan we work very closely with all the local schools. we take the children on visits to the schools and we invite teachers into Swan to see the children in this environment. We will have over any relevant paperwork to the schools, and share as much information as possible. If required, we will be happy to go on a visit to the relevant school with the parents.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

We ensure that all the children who have additional needs are met to the best of the settings ability with funds that are available. We may also be able to access additional funding iof available from outside agencies.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

The child's key person alongside the SENCO will discuss the child's needs and what support would be needed. Different chilren require different levels of support in order to reach their expected levels. This will be done with ongoing discussions between Swan and the parents/carers. We will know if these are having an impact by reviewing target on I.E.Ps and ensuring that they are making a difference. We will also know if your child is making progress against the national guidelines. The gap is narrowing -they are catching up to their peers or are reaching expected age levels in certain areas.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Parents/cares are welcome in the setting and are if they wish able to become a parent helper at any time. Stay and play days can be arranged for parents/carers. A parent rep is asked for feedback which is taken to Supervisors meeting with the coordinators. Contributing to your child’s learning journal is encouraged.
