At The Lime Tree Children’s Day Nursery, we follow the requirements of the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Code of Practice, to help support children and their families to the best of our abilities. We will support each child at thesetting and their family, through observations, regular reviews of development within the child’slearning Journals and use planned activities to help the child reach their full potential. We will provide parents and guardianswith regular reviews of their child’sprogress. Parents andguardianswill beasked for regular feedback from home on progress and share ideas on how to help with following next steps. We will use the 2-yearprogress check to highlightany areas where a child may be falling behind any of the prime areas of learning and not meetingmile stones. This is for parents to share with their Health Visitor should they wish. Thisis in conjunction with regular observations in the child’sLearning Journal and we may create an Individual Learning Plan to ensure we are working together in partnership and developing strategies to help ensure the child is getting the best possible start.Wewill be happy to make reasonable adjustments to thesetting to support any child and family with a disability. We have downstairs toilets for children and an adult toilet which can accommodate wheelchair access. Wewill plan outings/activities to include all children regardless of ability and continue to risk assess before or once we arrive. Wewill do everything we can to support a child and family with finding the right help and support for their child’sneeds, and continue to share progress with other agencies with the family’s permission. This could also be by means of working with schools and preschools. Wewould also be open to additional training to help support, in a specific area of disability or education, and wouldfollow any training the local authority advises to build our skillsetand knowledge. We have a designated SENCO (special educational needs coordinator) for the setting.Belowis a link to the Special Education Needs and Disability Code of Practice for 0-25 years. a child needs additional support, wewill speak to the parents /guardiansand share ourfindings. With permission wewould approach any of the agencies which may help support their child. Wewill do everything we can to ensure every child receives the best possible care and learning development. Working together early once an additional need has been found will help set things in place for a better future.
