What does your service do?

Our unique playscheme provides 1:1 care for children and young people. The provision is made up of several areas, including sensory, art, cookery, outdoor play (including modified bicycles). This creates a fun and stimulating environment for children and young people to explore and enjoy new activities.

Who does your service provide for?

LUPS provides high-quality holiday playschemes for children and young people (aged 2-19) with profound/multiple learning and/or complex physical disabilities. We accept applications from SLD and PMLD provisions.

We welcome children and young people from across Hampshire, but the majority of our cohort are from Fareham and Gosport.

How can I start using the service?

** WAITING LIST APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS**

The playschemes we run take place in the first week of Easter and the first three weeks of the Hampshire school summer holidays.

Application forms are automatically sent out to families who have accessed LUPS within the last 12 months.

For new joiner enquiries, please email chairperson@lups.co.uk

Where is it located and what areas does it cover?

LUPS is based at St Francis special school in Fareham. We welcome children and young people from across Hampshire, but the majority come from Fareham and Gosport.

How are decisions made about who can use your service?

LUPS is consistently oversubscribed, and so it is essential that we ensure the our places are only allocated to those children and young people for whom other playschemes are not suitable/accessible due to the person's complex needs.

Therefore we have an Admissions criteria which we adhere to at all times.  In addition, for all new applicants we will invite the family to visit the playscheme so that we can mutually assess whether LUPS is the right setting. If we feel LUPS is the right setting, then the child will be invited to join the following playscheme.

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making?

Our provision caters for children and young people with profound/multiple learning and/or complex physical disabilities which are met by attending a SLD or PMLD setting.

The management committee and Trustees are all parent carers - we feel this is an integral part of LUPS, and why we have successfully run for more than 37 years. Parent carers are invited to attend our bi-monthly committee meetings, and as a parent carer they have a say in decisions and future plans.

Is your service fully accessible?

We are very fortunate to be able to utilise St Francis special school for our playscheme. This ensures all areas of the playscheme are fully accessible and safe for all.

What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEN and Disabilities had or are having?

Moving & Handling training is carried out annually.

At the start of each playscheme we provide refresher training covering epilepsy. feeding and safeguarding.

Our management team are first aiders and fire warden, plus due to the complex needs of some of our children/young people, we have a registered nurse on site during the playscheme.

Our management team and some of our seniors have undertaken Team Teach.

How will I know my child is safe?

We are registered with Ofsted and the Charity Commission.

All of our management team, staff and trustees are DBS checked. Safeguarding training is provided annually to our team. We have a robust system in place which allows members of staff to efficiently report any concerns.

The school we use is a special school and is entirely secure both inside and out.
