How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

* We have a designated member of staff who uses 'Chatter Time' to promote speech and language and help close gaps in learning. • All staff have received initial Makaton training and use with all ages. • SENCO trained staff and SENCO Managers are able to work with parents to make referrals to SALT, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist, working alongside to implement their specialist plans. • Line Managers have received Behaviour Management Training and hold a wealth of experience in dealing with challenging behaviour. • The key person will complete a termly assessment using 'Every Child a Talker' monitoring tool. • A key person will work with your child to ensure progress is made across all areas of the curriculum. • Working closely with the family and encouraging parents to contribute to the child's online learning journey. • Individual Education Plans are written with parents input and reviewed regularly.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

We value the uniqueness of each child. Using our key person approach we tailor the action points of learning based on the individual age and stage of the child. We use the EYFS Development Matters as a guide for child's development, all staff have extensive knowledge of the EYFS though they recognise that they may need to differentiate to meet individual needs. We will work with parents and other professional as necessary to tailor the setting environment indoors and outdoors as much as possible to meet the needs.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

We use an online learning journey called Nursery in a box, the staff link the observations to the EYFS and parents can clearly see the progress their child is making. We encourage parents to contribute to the learning journal at home. We try to accommodate that every parent sees their child’s key person at least once a day; either at the beginning or the end of the day so they continue to build a relationship and can chat regularly about their child.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We are an inclusive nursery. We welcome and celebrate diversity and believe that children having high self-esteem is crucial to their well-being. Each child has their key person, who is responsible for the care, emotional and physical needs of the child. The key person is your first point of contact and liaises closely with the SENCO. There is a buddy system in place to support children in times of staff absence. Key people and their buddies build strong relationships with children who encourage them to share their views, fears or worries.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

Our setting is managed by an Early Years Teacher and there is a highly qualified management team in place to provide skills, expertise and support. The SENCO with the support of our Area INCO (area inclusion coordinator) can access any specialist services that we need. Including SALTA (Speech and Language Therapist Assistant), family outreach and portage. We can help parents refer to other services through the referral service.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

We have SENCO trained staff lead by a SENCO Manager in the setting who attend termly support meetings. We have an Area Inco who we can contact for support. Our Early Years Teacher staff are highly qualified and provide in house training for less experienced staff.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

We take children on outings in the local area for example a walk around the neighbourhood, walk to the woods or local park. We do not take children on transport. We are fully inclusive and adapt to meet individual needs.

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

We have steps to the front of our building, we do have alternative access to the building via both sides. We have a disabled toilet, however the hallway and doorways are narrow due to it being an older style building, we would use risk assessments to identify building suitability. The children's play rooms are situated on the ground floor of the building.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

We limit transitions within our setting by using the key person approach and only separating children between our Nest (0-2.5years) and Pre School (2year-5years) rooms. We use settling in sessions as part of the settling in process. We have successful track record of transitions of children joining and leaving our setting. We work closely with schools children will be moving on to and make sure that we have liaised with the school.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

Our most valuable resource is our staff team. Little 1 Nursery allocate staff taking into consideration skill set and match them as closely as possible to each child’s need and personality. Little 1 Nursery exceed the statutory ratios of 1 adult to 8 children for those over 3 years, 1 adult to 4 children for those aged 2-3 years and 1 adult to 3 children for those aged 0-2 years. If a child requires more staff resources then Little 1 Nursery take advice from outside agencies to try and secure funding to put in specific support. Material resources are provided according to the needs and interests of the children and specific resources are purchased if identified as beneficial.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

We work with parents and outside agencies to identify additional needs and access additional support, the amount of support received will depends on individual circumstance.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

We encourage our parents to be involved as much as possible. We hold stay and play sessions for parents, grandparents and carers. We have a Summer Fayre and a Christmas Party annually. We have an open door policy which means parents can come and talk to us at their convenience.
