- What does your service do?
Social Farming is an holistic wellbeing programme, providing a socially inclusive non-institutional secure and attractive setting to do meaningful work according to age, choice and ability, including animal care, under farmer supervision.
- Who does your service provide for?
Anyone wishing to improve their wellbeing. All sectors with any mild or moderate additional need from ages 9-90 years old can apply to use the service.
- How can I start using the service?
Contact FarmBuddies initially to find a suitable farm in your area.
- Where is it located and what areas does it cover?
On family farms and other rural sites across the South East region, including all of Hampshire.
- How are decisions made about who can use your service?
The suitability of the service for individual participants will be assessed initially by FarmBuddies and confirmed individually by the specific chosen farm prior to visits starting.
- How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making?
FarmBuddies is available at all times to service users via [http://www.farmbuddies.org.uk] Service users can become involved as much or as little as they like in farm life; the individually customised programme of farm activities will be varied by the farmer according to service user age and ability as well as choice.
- Is your service fully accessible?
Regrettably, most farms but not all have some limitations for active wheelchair users.
- What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEN and Disabilities had or are having?
Most service users will need to be accompanied during their farm visits. There is a wide range of SEND training amongst farm staff from none up to recent Local Authority levels. Most farms do not offer formal professional care trained staff, however a number have undergone some associated training.
- How will I know my child is safe?
Service user managers, parents, carers or participants themselves will need to check the farm's Policies, Risk Assessments, DBS clearances, insurance and any other important matters are up to their individually required standard before visits start.
