What does your service do?

Children’s Centre services are delivered by a range of providers including Health Visitors, Midwives, Family Support Workers and Adult Learning Providers. Some of these are accessed from our children’s centre hub buildings, but the majority take place in community venues, with some services also available in the family home. Examples of the types of services provided include open access groups such as songs and rhymes and child health clinics through to more targeted one to one family support and parenting programmes such as Family Nurture Programme for families with complex needs.

Who does your service provide for?

All families who live in Hampshire and have a child or children aged 0 - 5

How can I start using the service?

OurThere are a number of activities that are open to all families such as songs and rhymes groups and child health clinics. How are decisions made about who can use your service?

For open access (universal) services the vast majority are free or charge and largely just depend on the age of your children. Generally where more intensive family support is required this will need a request for support to be completed by either yourself or service provider you are already involved with.

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making?

Communication will vary dependent on the service provided however the majority of communication will be face to face and via the telephone. Your voice and views are important and we want to make sure they are heard and understood. We will work alongside you and your family to find out exactly what concerns you and what support you need, building on the strengths you already have.

Is your service fully accessible?

The children’s centre buildings are well sign posted on public highways for easy access. Once inside the buildings there is plenty of information for parents to access. Children’s centres are designed to be family friendly environments, both accessible and welcoming to all. Our centres would be delighted to welcome more children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Individual measures would be put in place to support individual parent or child needs, e.g. design of the playroom layout to allow wheelchair access.

What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEN and Disabilities had or are having?

Staff training will vary dependent on the provider delivering the service. For more information contact the relevant service provider.

How will I know my child is safe?

All children remain with their parent/carer at all times. The only exception would be is if a child were in a crèche whilst their parent/carer was attending an adult learning opportunity. If children had any medical needs, this would need to be discussed beforehand but would not automatically preclude a child from being accepted into the crèche. Robust safeguarding polices and procedures are in place which includes a rigorous recruitment process with Disclosure and Barring checks taking place as well as references for all staff members including volunteers. Health and Safety is a priority and procedures are followed to ensure the buildings and venues are a safe environment with risk assessments in place for activities and equipment.
