How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

I work alone and therefore give continuous support and care. I aim to build confidence and self-esteem, helping your child to feel secure and happy whilst away from home. When starting at my setting I ask parents for routines and information regarding interests, home life, strengths and areas of development. This helps me to keep things as normal as possible and to identify activities or support needed

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

The activities I provide are planned around the children’s interests and individual developmental needs. I use the Early Years Foundation Stage(https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework--2) as a guide for the children’s development. All children are observed and an assessment is made which helps to highlight development needs. Activities will be planned for the next steps.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

All children are regularly observed and assessed. This is how I plan their next steps. I will give you your child’s Learning Journal regularly, so you can clearly see your child’s progress. If a child is not making progress I can access further support from my Professional Association of Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) co-ordinator, the Local Authority or seek advice from other professionals. I have a range of age related resources at my setting which your child can access at all times. I also share and borrow resources from other childminders.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

It is my responsibility to ensure your child is safe and secure, both emotionally and physically. I maintain an inclusive setting. My setting is risk assessed daily and toys are regularly checked for breakages. We have a list of house rules which have been made with the children. I am first aid trained. All medication is kept secure. Record books are kept for all medication held and dosage, time of administration is recorded and signed by the parents. I and other adults in the house over 16 are Criminal Records Bureau checked. I have trained at Level 3 safeguarding, this is updated regularly. I have policies covering Safeguarding, Special Educational Needs and Inclusion. I have parental consent to take photos of their child.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

have a strong network of support from other childminders. We run a support group on a Monday morning. I can access further expertise from my Professional Association of Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) co-ordinator, the Local Authority or other professionals.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

Training is undertaken regularly to continue my professional development. I would always be happy to work with parents or other professionals to learn specific skills to support a child. I am first aid trained, have a level 3 childcare qualification and level 3 safeguarding.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

>I have permission slips signed by parents and undertake regular outings to toddler groups, parks etc. All area’s visited are wheelchair and buggy accessible. A risk assessment is carried out prior to the outing to ensure the needs of each child are met

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

I work from home in a terraced house in central Gosport. Access through the front door has a slope so is wheelchair accessible, however, we do have 2 steps down into the kitchen and bathroom and a high step at the back door into the garden. Only the ground floor of my house is used for childminding. I have a secure rear garden and am close to local parks, the town centre and beach. I do daily school runs to Leesland Infant and Junior schools, which is just around the corner.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

I ask new children and families to attend settling in sessions before they start. For children moving on to infant/primary school - the teachers are welcome to visit my setting and I am happy to facilitate any visits to the school, offered to your child.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

I offer Government funded Early Years Education (EYE) places for eligible 2 year olds and all 3 & 4 year olds. (http://www.gov.uk/free-early-education).

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

I continually observe and assess your child. I will discuss with you any concerns and a decision will be made whether your child would benefit from extra support. This will be discussed with my Professional Association of Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) co-ordinator and moved on from there. An individual Education Plan would be devised for your child with your input.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

I ask all parents to work with me on their child’s learning and development. Parents are consulted regularly and kept informed of their child’s progress. I ask for comments and ideas for activities to extend their child’s learning.
