- How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?
At Forest Footsteps we employ staff who perform high quality education and care, who most are fully qualified in Early Years. Staff are trained to observe and assess all children. Where we feel children are not making the progress we would expect, or if we have concerns, we will address this with the children's parents. If you have any concerns regarding your child, please do share them with your child's key person.
- How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
We will support all children through offering experiences and resources that appropriate for all children depending on their ages and stages of development. Your child's key person, and SENCO if necessary, will provide a targeted plan if your child needs additional support. Your child's development and progress will be regularly observed and assessed, and where we feel additional agencies are required for support, we will take the next necessary steps to gaining further support.
- How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
Using The Development Matters document, we will track your child's development and next steps. Understanding this information means we can then plan for your child's individual needs.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
We will track your child's development, which will also be shared with parents. Through completing tracking, we can see if progress has been seen, and how much. We will share ideas for you to do at home to support your child, and where possible we will also lend resources too.
- What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
The support your child needs will be assessed on an individual basis, ensuring their well being is fully cared for. We will communicate with families to ensure we have the best understanding of your child. As soon as we have any concerns with your child's well being, we will share with you.
- What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
We have access to our Local Authorities Inclusion Team where we gain ample training and information. We also access additional training as and when required.
- What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

Behaviour Management
- How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
We have an outdoor area, that is accessible for all. We also have resources that can be used and adapted for different ages and stages of development. Where we feel our area needs reviewing for accessibility, we will do instantly.
We also use the woods adjacent to the setting. The site is accessible via a kissing gate, larger enough for a pushchair.
- How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?
Our setting is accessible via a front entrance at ground level. Door sizes are wide enough for wheel chair access. As a pack away setting, the environment can be set up daily, taking in to account accessibility needs at the time. We have various size resources and units, to suit various ages, stages of development and needs.
- How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
We support the children in transitions by good communication between all parties involved. We share Social Stories with children who may have a difficult transition, and organise visits where possible. We also plan activities and experiences to support various transitions for children including Home Learning Packs that can be shared.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
As previously mentioned, we have various resources and equipment to suit different ages and stages. Where we feel more resources are needed to suit allocation, this will be sought urgently.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
Where we feel additional support is needed, greater than what our setting can provide, we will apply for SEN funding through our Local Authority. Other support can be accessed through our Local Authority's Inclusion Setting Support Officer.
- How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
We liaise with parents all the time, sharing information. From the very beginning we will gather as much information from the parents as possible, then through out the time with us, reports and observations will be shared with parents and families can also share theirs through Tapestry.
We also access training and share information with families too. Some training is also available for parents too.
