- How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
As a childcare professional, I work alone, but ensure close contact with other professionals and parents to enable continuity of care, a secure base for each child. All policies and risk assessments are in place to support all children and parents. I ask parent to complete an “All About Me” form which highlights the child’s current development, language, strengths, home life and interests. The family are offered settling days prior to start date and after. I offer additional information and help from outside professional who may be involved or could offer assistance with the child’s development.
- How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
I work in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, ensuring that each session is child lead but build around the child’s interests, which enables me to assess the child’s strengths and needs, helping me form their individual next steps. I have a rich environment, incorporating indoor and outdoor play areas, trips out and walks, to enable them to explore and investigate.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
Each parent/carer will continually be informed about their child’s progress and achievements, by verbal communication each session and also the use of an online 24 hour system. Each parent has a unique secure log-in, gaining access to this information. I also, provide opportunities for discussions at convenient times for either party. I have access to further support/advice from (PACEY) Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years, co-ordinator, the local authority or other relevant professionals. As I work closely with other childminder’s in my area, we share resources, enabling us to vary learning opportunities, skills to support the child’s individual needs. I have story books in other languages to support children with their language.
- What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
As a childcare professional, working alone, I am responsible for ensuring your child is safe and secure, both emotionally and physically. I carry out risk assessments daily and I have policies and procedures in place to cover all aspects of safety. I have undertaken paediatric first aid training, which specialises in young children and my skills are renewed and assessed every 3 years. All medication is stored securely and out of reach, to the specific instruction of each bottle/packet. Any medication administered is recorded and signed for daily by parents. I have undertaken level 4 Safeguarding Training, again renewed regularly. All adults within my house are DBS checked. Consent for outings, photo’s and numerous others are required at the start of care. I am registered with the ICO, protecting images.
- What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
have previously cared for two Autistic children, a child with speech delay, a child with Aspergers Syndrome, for many years, liaising with other professionals such as Social Workers, Health Officials, Speech Therapists, Playschool Staff and Portage. Following any advice given, to help the progress of the children. I have a good network of childminding colleagues, attending a support session every Wednesday, who are on hands should I need extra advice. I can access advice further expertise from Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) via Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) Co-ordinator or from specific professionals.
- What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?
As part of my Ofsted Registration, I ensuring that any specific training is attended if required. I work closely with outside agencies as required. I attend termly support session through PACEY. I have previously attended training in: Disability Awareness, behaviour management, supporting 2 year old, Fine and Gross Motor Skills, to name a few. I hold my NVQ Level 3 qualification in Childcare. I have previously worked as a Nanny in the USA.
- How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
>As a professional childcare provider, my service is inclusive, ensuring that all children have opportunities to explore inside and outside environments. As risk assessment is carried out before a trip, and parental advice is sought.
- How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?
Working from home, has its limitations. I live in a detached bungalow, with large driveway. I have 5 steps up to my front door and 5 steps into the rear garden area. The rear garden is on two levels with 4 steps up to the grass area. I have a downstairs toilet facilities. My home is unable to cater for a full size wheel chair.
- How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
All new families are invited to attend settling in sessions, these are with the parents, then continue on to be without the parent prior to the start date. This hopefully ensure a smooth flowing transition for the child. When a child is nearing the start of school, I work closely with each school, ensuring that the future teacher for each child has a full and clear picture as to the age and stage of development, achievements and personality. I attend the teddy bears picnic with the parent and children. Most children within my care, regularly visit the school on daily basis, due to the school run, ensuring each child is comfortable.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
I can provide the Early Years Education Grant (15 hours per week) for Eligible 2, 3 and 4 year olds. This can be split between two settings. Additional funding can be claimed for children with special educational needs.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
By observing each child within my setting, and gaining information from my 2 year check, and discussion with parents, we can evaluate whether your child needs extra or specialist support. Together we can develop an individual learning plan for your child, also gaining other professional advice if required.
- How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
I use an online system to ensure parents have 24 hour access to their child’s learning journey, progress charts etc. Keeping them continually aware of the age and stage of their child’s achievements. I also communicate verbally at the start and end of each session, their child’s progress, also through use of daily diaries. Thus ensuring we work closely together giving your child the best opportunity to progress.
