Fareham College - SEND Employability Hub
SEND Employability Hubs provide young people with education, skills, training and personal development, as well as work experience placements, and supported internships. The type of pathway is based on their individual needs and aspirations. The hubs also provide opportunities for young people to access other educational opportunities within colleges.
A newly developed Employability Hub, running from Fareham College.
Fareham College offers full and part time courses at our industry standard facilities to support students to excel in their chosen fields.
As part of this provision to SEND learners we are in the first year of delivering the SEND Employability Hub and currently focus this as a bolt on provision to sit alongside a mainstream study programme.

- What does your service do?
SEND Employability Hubs bring together workplace and non-workplace learning to develop and deliver a flexible programme focusing on the elements young people with SEND need to gain independence and skills which maximises progression into sustained employment and independence to transform the life chances of young people with SEND.
Core elements of the programme include:
- Education, skills and personal development support, in line with the pathways of ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ framework from the Department for Education (Employment, Independent Living, Community Inclusion and Health).
- Opportunities to engage with employers and gain experience in the workplace through work experience, work placements and Supported Internships.
- Progression pathways into Paid Employment or a Supported Apprenticeship

- Where is it located and what areas does it cover?
Fareham College consists of three campuses, Bishopfield Road, CEMAST and CETEC and currently the SEND Employability Hub is delivered from the Bishopfield Road Campus in Fareham. The college takes applications from students from a wide area wishing to access technical and professional qualifications.
- How are decisions made about who can use your service?
The Hub sits within the Additional Learning Support Department and is lead strategically by the ALS Manager and operationally by a highly experienced member of the Learning Support team
- How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making?
Potential Hub students are identified following successful applications and meetings with the Learning Support team using information from EHCP’s and transition documents from schools. All those identified through this process will be invited to attend an information event in July where parents/carers and potential students are able to meet key members of the team and have the opportunity to ask questions.
- What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEN and Disabilities had or are having?
Staff undertake regular professional development to ensure that they have the most up to date knowledge and skills that are needed to appropriately support learners with SEND.
- How will I know my child is safe?
The safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults is of paramount importance to Fareham college; ensuring a safe, positive, and secure environment is embraced by all and underpins our college values. Fareham College has a dedicated safeguarding team who are available to assist with difficult problems that students may face.
