- How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?
You will be asked if your child has any SEN needs or if you have any concerns about your childs behavior and/or development. We can signpost you towards additional support if needed.
- How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
We will make all children feel welcome and try our best to cater for their individual needs.
- How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
We endeavor to provide a fun, educational and engaging environment for all. Activities will be adapted to the childrens needs as well as their age and stage of development.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
At the start and end of each session we will communicate with the parents/carers to ensure a good handover.
- What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
We will make sure your child feels welcome, safe and secure whilst at holiday club/HAF.
We support all children by recognizing and praising positive behaviour.
Staff running the holiday club/HAF will have received training in Food Hygiene and Safeguarding.
- What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
Prescribed medication can be administered by a senior member off staff with prior written consent. Medication is stored securely and accurate records are kept of use.
- What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?
The holiday club manager holds a level 6 in Early Years Education and is a trained SENCo. The deputy manager is being introduced to the SENCo role and has enrolled on a level3 SEN course. All other staff has had inhouse training on SEN needs and behaviour management.
- How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
If your child has specific needs which may make outings more challenging we will invite you to come along. If you are not available we will endeavor to ensure adequate staffing (or a one-to-one volunteer) is available. If you feel a particular outing is not suitable for your child you may request they do not take part.
- How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?
The Carroll Centre is fully wheelchair accessible. There is also an accessible toilet with nappy changing facilities.
- How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
For children with additional needs attending holiday club/HAF we will complete a comprehensive handover with the parents/carers.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
We can make changes to the environment/equipment/resources available for the children based on their individual needs. If specialist equipment is required we will request the parents/carers to bring this in and instruct staff on how to accurately use this.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
This will be discussed between the parents/carers and a senior member off staff. We will also take the voice of the child into account before any decisions are made. The SENCo will be involved if the child has any SEN or behavioural needs.
- How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
The Carroll Centre is a registered charity and is governed by a board of Trustees. On a daily basis the Carroll Centre is governed by the Head of Centre and the Childcare (Poppins nursery, Holiday club and HAF) is managed by the nursery manager. All parents/carers and service users are invited to attend the center's Annual General Meeting (AGM).
As a parent/carer you may be involved in Holiday club/HAF through volunteering some of your time to assist the staff/children with activities and/or outings. We also welcome feedback from both parents/carers as well as children so we can improve our provision.
