How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

I have over 20 years experience personally and 8 years professionally of working with children with extra needs therefore I am very aware as a parent what a worrying and stressful time this can be. Each child in my care is an individual and supported throughout their time with me to reach their full potential with individual learning plans

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

Each child has their own individual learning plan. This is built around their strengths and interests and also focusses on areas they may be struggling with. Their learning is child led. We spend time in my home, out in the garden and out and about in the local area.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

Each child has a daily diary where I tell you about your child’s progress as well as a verbal handover every day. I tailor individual curriculums and continually check your child’s development against the EYFS. I can provide extra help and activities if you wish. On registering at Apple Tree I will give you a copy of the EYFS document ‘what to expect when’ which is a useful guide for you to see what your child should be doing at what age. NB This is only a guide, if you have any concerns please speak to me.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

Safe Guarding is highly important at Apple Tree. I will provide a varied curriculum with fun and educational activities, giving lots of praise and encouragement. Risk assessments are done continually, ensuring your child is always safe. I am St John’s paediatric trained and all my family have DBS checks. I have a safeguarding policy as well as a behaviour policy, where positive behaviour is always praised and encouraged and the apple tree house rules and reward scheme which the children enjoy following.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

have over 20 years experience of working with speech therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists. I also have 8 years experience of working with children with severe disabilities. I will contact a SENCO through my local coordinator and follow any advice given.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

I have 22 years experience of autism/speech delay. 8 years experience of severe learning/behavioural disabilities. I am Makaton trained, moving and handling trained, First Aid trained, have Level 3 Children and Young Persons Workforce qualification and completed CYPOP Safeguarding through Hampshire County Council.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

>I offer an inclusive service both in my setting and when out and about. Each trip is risk assessed based on the children in my care and any adjustments to my usual routine are made to ensure all children are safe at all times.

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

I live in a detached house in Stubbington with a large driveway. There is a step from the drive up to the porch and a step down from the kitchen and playroom to the patio. There is then another step down from the patio on to the grass area. I have a downstairs toilet.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

At our initial meeting we will talk about what help/support your child needs and discuss ways I can support them. I will then have a number of settling in sessions when I can work with your child and yourself to ensure you are happy before starting for a 4 week settling in period, meeting the other children in my care and getting used to the routine. When your child leaves apple Tree or starts a new setting I provide a transition report which you should give to the new setting

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

I can provide government funded early years education funding for all 3 & 4 Year olds. If your child is 2 years old I may be able to access funding. I will contact other professionals to obtain any specialist equipment I may need for your child..

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

A decision will be made once I have talked with yourself about your child’s needs and observed and assessed them myself. If I need more advice I will contact my local coordinator (with your permission).

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

As well as daily chats and diaries, I will ask parents regularly if they have any specific concerns/areas they would like me to support their child with. Any help/advice you can give me is very much appreciated.
