Busy Bees Pre-School
We open at 8.30am each day with flexible drop offs at 8.30, 9.00 and 9.30am. On Mon, Tues and Thurs our pick up times are either 12.00, 1.00 or 2.00pm, on Wed and Fri we close at 12.00. On Mon and Fri mornings we have our Forest School sessions from 9.30-12.00.

- How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
Busy Bees staff/ Key Person will liaise with you to see what has been put in place so it can be continued in the setting. The staff will also work with outside agencies who may be working with you and your child, such as portage, speech to continue any strategies or actions which have or will be put in place, Busy Bees have a named SENCO who will support your child’s Key Person to do this
- How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
All children develop at different stages and their next steps are based on the progress of the individual. The next steps are based on your child’s interests and observations which have been recorded by your child’s Key Person. We use Individual Education Plan’s (IEP) which have small steps/ targets which would be based on your child’s development and these are decided on with you.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
Each child has a Key Person who will liaise with you termly sharing your child’s Learning Journal but also your Key Person is available to talk on a daily basis. To help you support your child,s learning you could spend some time in the pre-school and see how the setting is working with your child if you are unable to do this then your Child’s Key Person could give you some activities to do at home with your child. The setting would be able to give you information about other groups which you could take your child to and join other activities e.g. The children Centre.
- What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
Your child will have a Key Person who will be your child’s main carer. They will see to their daily needs and the other members of staff will also be there to help and support as they do with all the other children in the setting. Your Key Person will be your main contact when you drop your child off so if you have any information/ concerns which we would need to know then you could share it then.
- What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
Busy Bees has worked with agencies such as Portage, Speech & Health Visitors to give children who have Special Educational Needs or disabilities opportunites to learn and develop. The staff at Busy Bees are all qualified to Level 3. We have a named SENCO(Special Educational Needs Co-0rdinator) and 3 other members of staff are also trained SENCO’s. Our SENCO is Wendy Cleal and Tracy Rogers.
- What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?
Busy Bees have a named SENCO who oversees any plans which are put in place for any child that needs extra support. The staff have had ‘Makaton’ training which is used in the setting and it allows us to communicate with children who have very little or no speech. It is also good for those who can communicate. Some staff have taken part in the ‘Keep on Talking’ Training which gives strategies to help with recognising any delays in speech, this training has also been cascaded down to all members of staff.
- How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
>All children would be included in any days out / trips that the pre-school has. Those which we have had in the past the parents have attended with us and mostly used their own transport.
- How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?
We have a ramp to the main entrance and the setting is all in one room, there is space around the areas, of learning, to move around. We have toilets which are accessible from the room and changing facilities for those who are unable to use the toilets (for this we use a changing mat which is placed on the floor). There is a small step to go out of the back door into the gazebo and then there is a small step out into the play area. The play area has different levels and materials to walk on. We have rubber chippings for the main area, a large sand pit, a gravel area and a concrete area for riding bikes.
- How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
To prepare for your child attending the Busy Bees we would ask you to come in for 2 settles, which are free, so we can see you and your child to gain all the information which we would need to know. You could look round the pre-school as so we could adapt the room for when your child starts. If your child needed any more settles then we would arrange them at that time. We would contact any other agencies, who may be working with you, to invite them in or to gather information from to enable us to carry out any routines/ strategies which your child is already working with or any new ones which we can start to use.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
The Pre-School resources are used by all, relating to the ages of the children. Any additional funding which is given to the setting is used to purchase any resources or equipment which the individual may need to allow them to develop and learn. It is also used to allow for the individual to have one to one time with their Key person or another member of staff.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
The decision would be made, for how much support your child would receive, from any information shared by you the parents when your child starts the setting. Information from any other outside agencies or from observations which we would make in the first weeks of your child attending are also used. These may be strategies which we would put in place or if needed with support from other agencies which the pre-school works with e.g INCO’S, Portage, Health Visitors
- How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
We are a committee run pre-school so we invite ALL parents to join in the committee meetings. We have a parent rota which parents can put their name on and come in and ‘play’ in any sessions. Each child has a learning journal which we ask you to take home and put any information about your child and your family in so we can get to know them a little better. Your child’s Key Person will also put in any observations, photo’s, pictures or paintings which your child has done whist they are with us. This Journal will then be shared with you at the end of each term but you will also be able to take it home with you at any time to put anything in which you would like to share with us or to show other members of your family.
