We are a charity run pre school that care for children from two years nine months until school age. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in order to educate your child to the best of our ability. We are a small team of professionals who have a great deal of experience and many qualifications in early years education. We are a free flow play setting meaning that we teach through play and activities, the children have constant access to water, sand, messy play, various toys, books and rolling seasonal/themed activities, both inside and outside.

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

We use the EYFS to assess the children regularly through play and activities. If we feel that a child is not meeting their development milestones in any area we will first talk to you confidentially about our concerns. This will be conducted by the child's key person, who you will be introduced you on your child's first visit. This person will be the liaison between you, your child and any external professionals that are needed, as well as any follow up education plans put in place. We are an inclusive setting that will help all children to be included in all activities. We use Makaton and visual cues to help the children get around the setting, this is especially useful for the children who have English as an additional language and those with additional needs.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

Every child that attends our setting will have a keyperson. That person is highly trained in meeting your child's educational needs and will be the liaison between you, your child and any external professionals that are needed, as well as any follow up education plans put in place. The key person will assess your child and fill out their profile on Tapestry, an online learning journal that you have access to, which is a platform that lets you see the development of your child and what they have been doing at preschool. The keyperson will also conduct planning based on Tapestry and the EYFS which will help your child reach the next stage in their development. Your child will have a home diary in which you can write to the key person with any concerns. We also use a drop in system where you can come into the setting and talk to any member of staff whenever you have a concern. When you fill out the initial registration form you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and we will find out more about your child.
