Description

When a child joins us at Ancells farm community preschool we ask that an ‘all about me’ is completed, this give staff the opportunity to know about the child before they start and support can be put in to place for a smooth transition in to the setting. We work with the parents/carers on transition for both them and their child, we understand this can be a difficult time for both children and parents/carers and offer full support for both. The manager Suzanne Way will book in transition and settling in visits to support the child settling in to the preschool. These are provided on individual need of the child.

At Ancells farm community preschool we provide children with a keyworker, the child’s keyworker will communicate closely with parents/carers on their child development. The keyworker will observe, monitor and plan for each individual child, providing continuous learning opportunities based on the child’s developmental stage and interest. Each keyworker will work closely with the setting SENCO ( Helen Fury ) they will work together to identify any developmental delays and putting targets plans/IEPs in place with parent support when needed. Target plans/IEPs will be carried out as per each individual plan. These will be reviewed with parents/carers and updated regularly.

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

At Ancells farm each child is seen as unique with their own character, an individual developmental pathway and their own learning needs. We focus on the child's interest to help support the child’s learning. We have a small team of staff that get to know the children really well and can then plan around each individual child.

If there are areas where your child has identified a delay in their learning, our SENCo will ask to meet with you to consider how we support your child together and if we need to approach key professionals from external agencies for specialist support. You will be asked for consent before we discuss your child with professionals from outside agencies.

This may require individualised target plans, education health care plan, individual behaviour plans. We will involve you as parents/carers throughout these processes and work closely with you at all times so these are developed in partnership with you as parents and potentially other professionals.

These other professionals could come from a number of agencies including: Services for Young Children, Family Support centres, ISSO (Inclusion Setting Support Officer), SALT ( speech and language therapy), occupational therapy (OT),  Children’s Social care teams, Health Visitors, Community and Charity based services

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

At Ancells farm we have policies covering many areas, we are able to administer medicine to your child that has been prescribed, be that by a doctor, dentist or pharmacist. We encourage healthy eating any lots of different physical activities to support a healthy body. We offer long term support for medical needs and can adapt to allergies and intolerances. We offer a warm, welcoming, friendly,  inclusive and positive approach to our preschool. Staff provide good role models for positive behaviour and we have a consistent duty of care we all our children.  When we support behaviour at Ancells farm we positively reinforce expected and wanted behaviour and where possible, we use different strategies to support each individual child as we understand that each child is an individual.  Behaviour is dealt with in a consistent way by the team, ensuring that no children or staff come to harm and the matter is dealt with thoroughly. If needed ABC charts will be used to track behaviour, this allows us to identify any patterns in behaviour and any possible triggers. Behaviour plans can be introduced and risk assessments put in to place to support the child and to ensure the safety of everyone within the setting. We will always talk to the child in question and ensure that we try our best to understand why an incident has occurred and any factors that may have led up to it. When needed we will make up behaviour charts with you and your child to encourage positive behaviour. Staff take part in regular training and keep up to date with changes to policies. Any safeguarding concerns are recorded and reported when required

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

The curriculum will be match to a child’s individual need and developmental stage. Each key worker will observe and plan next steps around each individual child’s developmental stage. This opens up the opportunity for all ages and stages to develop and learn at their own pace. The same activity can be used for children of different stages and can include multiple areas of development by adapted to support each individual need. The planned activity may support the  fine motor skills with a 5 year old and also the gross motor skills with a 2 year old, understanding language of a child with English as an additional language, and social communication opportunities for all children. Our staff will look to encourage children to develop more through each activity and continually re-enforce  those skills they have already developed while discover and learning new skills.

Our SENCo provides each child’s keyperson with support and activities to progress in their area of need. we work as a team to ensure observations are made and target plans are followed and progress recorded.  We will share this with parents /carers as to support both learning at home and in our preschool. We work closely with parents/carers to ensure we are all working on the same targets and maintain consistency. We use development matters as a guid to child’s development and this is used to support both our long term and short term planning. We can highlight any areas of delayed development for each individual child.

Within the setting there is opportunity for children to safely explore a self-directed learning experiences. This encourages the children to make their own choices and creating their own play through using the environment around them. We also encourage children to engage with adult directed and guided activities that can be extended or adapted, giving each child a chance to push their potential.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

At Ancells farm community preschool we use an online communication system. This is where the parents/carers will be able to see their child’s learning, next steps, reports, observations and photos. We encourage parents/carers to share WOW moments or any special events on here too. We can then share these in preschool, this supports the child by using their interest and learning can then be extended.

We follow the EYFS and use Development Matters as a tracking guide and tool. If delays are identified by the key worker, they will work with our setting SENCo to support the child in any delays. We will communicate with parents/carers throughout all development, this includes when development is being met within the age range and when delays are identified.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We encourage parents/carers to express any concerns to they child keyworker or our SENCo. Staff are always available and happy to arrange a meeting if parents/carers have concerns about their child’s development. The child’s keyworker and the SENCo will be on hard to offer next steps and targets that both parents/cares and preschool can follow together.  We will discuss with parents/carers if a referral to an outside agency is needed to support their child. We will work closely as a team at all times

Risk assessments are carried out and area checked before the visit. Parents/cares are always welcome to join us on trips, sports days and other events. We take each child’s individual need in to consideration, if a child requires higher ratio of staff this can be accommodated

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

Our setting has wheelchair access to the building and to the garden. We have a disabled toilet as well as both male and female toilets on site. The setting has several rooms, this enables us to split in to groups and focus on groups work such as language group or school readiness group. How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

When a child is starting Ancells farm community preschool or moving on to their next setting we will gather as much information as possible from parents and other professionals involved with your child to ensure the transition to preschool or next setting is as smooth as possible, and that we have things in place ready to support your child. When a child joins us we use ‘all about me’ and settling in visits. This allows us to get to know the child before they start and we can support transition. When a child transitions to a new setting we will use a TPA ( transition partnership agreement ), one page profile – this allows us to work in partnership with the next setting and lets them know all about the child prior to them starting. Any interventions, support and staff training can them be put in to place for the child

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

We would meet with parents/carers and discuss any needs and developmental delays with parents/carers, we can allocate resources accordingly. We plan according to each child individual needs, this would also include equipment and resources. When working with outside agencies, we would discuss with them and take on board any recommendation regarding resources including accessing specialist equipment. We use sensory and emotional support resources within the setting these are accessible for all children and adapted to each individual need. we provide open ended resources providing children such as water, sand, arts and crafts, treasure baskets, deconstructed role-play.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

Each individual child will be observed and planned for on an individual basis. Target plans are put in to place and are unique to each child.. The child’s keyworker and our SENCo will work together with the child’s parents/carers and any outside agencies involved. Target plans are reviewed by our SENCo,  and next targets are put in to place jointly with our SENCo , keyworker and parents/carers

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

we offer Parent consultations to discuss children’s stages of development and any concerns. We offer stay and play sessions if parents/carers would like to join their child for a short period, this offers a great opportunity for parents to take away learning from preschool for continuation at home. Observations are added to our online system for parents to see what their child is learning in the setting. Parents/carers are invited to events within preschool such as sports days, graduation and celebrations. We offer the opportunity for parents/carers to volunteer and welcome any donations and suggestions to support the children’s learning.
