- How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?
Their child's key worker is available to discuss matters with you at the start and end of each day and meetings can be arranged to discuss any SENCO issues and to work out any plans or agencies that need to be involved can be talked through at these meetings.
Any outside agencies that are involved with your child are invited into Triangle to carry out necessary observations and the results are shared with you as well as any recommendations.
- How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
Your child's Key worker and our SENCO will discuss any issues with you about your child and we will agrees an individual education plan. The SENCO will also liaise between your child's key worker, other settings, outside agencies and yourself if needed.
When starting you will be supplied with a welcome pack which includes information about the setting and forms which will need to be completed and returned so that the pre-school can learn as much about your child as possible. This will also help to ensure that any care or extra help needed is put in place before your child starts.
Your child's key worker and SENCO will be responsible for there continuing development and discuss matters with you if needed at the beginning or end of each session.
Outside agencies are utilised when needed including the Area Inclusion Officer (INCO), Portage and Ethnic Minority and Travellers Advisory Service (EMTAS).
- How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
The Key Worker will spend time observing the children to get to know them and create secure attachments. The key worker will ensure that they give the child opportunities to develop in all areas of learning.
We use individual education plans or behaviour plans if needed to inform all those involved with your child. These plans are used to target specific areas of development which may require a more individualised or specialist approach.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
Parents information meetings are held during the Autumn and Spring Term to provide parents with crucial information about their children settling in and transition into school. We use tapestry as our online learning journals and parents can add observations themselves and share with us.
The key worker is available to discuss matters with you at the start and end of each day and meetings can also be made for a convenient time if you wish a longer meeting or to discuss any issue with SENCo. Any agencies which are involved with your child are invited into Triangle to carry out necessary observations and the results are shared with parents.
- What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
All members of staff at Triangle are responsible for ensuring your child is safe and secure, however their key worker will take the lead on their individual well-being. There is always an adult in all areas of the setting being inside or outside so no child is ever left alone.
Children's medication is kept in the medicine bag and a medication book is always completed and shared with all staff. If a child has an allergy then a picture of the child and details are put up in the session so all staff are aware of their allergies, all staff have had their DBS clearance.
Staff and visitors are not allowed to have their phone with them and they are locked in our cupboard in the blue and only staff have access to this.
If a child or member of staff make a disclosure regarding a safeguarding issue it is dealt with in line with our safeguarding policy which is available for parents and staff at all times.
- What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
All staff have a minimum of level 3 training in child care and development and we are all trained in paediatric first aid and are trained in using anaphylactic pens.
We have basic Makaton training and are able to access advice and support from the area inclusion team, portage, speech and language and EMTAS.
- What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?
All staff have basic training in Makaton and we have three members of staff that are SEN trained with one member being are SENCO Lead.
Our SENCO Lead attends regular briefings and will attend any inclusion meetings when needed.
- How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
Triangle offers children the opportunity to take part in short outings around the setting and local area. These outing may include a trip to the local shops to buy ingredients for cooking or looking for shapes in the local environment or finding leaves to make pictures with. Children are invited to take part in these outing and can choose if they would like to come or not.
Children's special needs and medical requirements are carefully considered and taken into account when organising these trips to best provide for the needs of individuals and a full risk assessments is carried out before each outing takes place.
- How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?
There is a small step leading in to the building and a large door leading in to the main hall which is accessible to both buggies and wheelchairs. There is a small step to our outside area but needed we could consult with the church about any alterations that might be needed. The building has accessible toilets and nappy changing area with child sized toilet seat fitted to one toilet and stools for the children to stand on.
We can provide visual timetable and picture of activities to help the children choose, we also have a room which can be used as a quiet area and used for small key groups or language groups.
- How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
Parents are welcome to come in for a visit with there child before starting. There will be a stay and play session before the child starts so they can be introduced to their key worker and other members of staff and the other children. The parents will receive a welcome pack with information about the setting and forms to fill in about their child, health and contact details. We offer a home visit to all parents and any settling in procedures are agreed with the parent/Carer and their Key Worker as all children are different and it is important that we meet the child's needs.
For children transferring to other settings or school we will have a transition meeting and if it can be arranged the teachers from the new setting will come and visit with us and we will take the child to their new setting/school.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
During the child's first visits or their settling in process parents will sit down with their child's key worker and manager and discuss the needs of the child in detail.
Additional funding may be available for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) This funding must be used to support the child claiming it and will not be used for any other purpose. The funding will be used in the most appropriate way after discussions with all involved.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
If your child starts with us and already has a recognised need for support then we will sit down with those agencies and discuss any support that is needed to care for your child in our setting and all outcomes will be discussed with the parents.
Every child will have a key worker who will observe and assess your child regularly. If a concern is raised through those observations then a meeting will be held with the parent, the SENco and the key worker to discuss these concerns and decide how best to proceed. If necessary outside agencies will be contacted with the parents consent to offer further advice.
- How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?
The setting is managed by a parent run committee and some of the fundraising for the setting is arranged by the parents. Parents are welcome to come in and help in any way and share any skills or interests they have with the children. For parents to get involved then they can speak to any member of staff who will help.
