How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

I provide continuous care supporting your child whilst they are in my home, this builds on their confidence and positive self esteem, making sure they feel safe and secure. I share the childs learning journey with the parents/carers and communicate regularly. I inform them of the childs progress and ensure they are provided with all the necessary information. The parents fill in an all about me form when the child first starts which helps me work our their strengths, home background, interests, language etc, this helps me to plan activities, support and identify anything that's needed.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

Planning is child led so that the child learns through their interests with guidance from me which is individual to the child. I then provide activities for your child to learn within the area of need. I follow the E.Y.F.S curriculum as a guide for the childs development. Your child is unique and I allow them to explore and investigate with support in a safe and rich environment to develop their potential, with as much one-one support as possible. I undertake observations and assessments are made which will highlight any areas of development that may need to be focused on, then plans can be made to achieve optimum learning through these areas.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

I observe each child through play and evaluate how they learnt and how to take their learning forward. Any concerns I may have is shared/discussed with the parent/carer regularly. If a child is not making progress then I will seek advice from other professionals ie: my Pacey co/coordinator or local children's centre that have SENCO professionals. If English is not their first language then I will access resources to support that child within my provision. I provide a range of developmental resources which your child can access in my setting ie: audio and visual equipment, toys, posters in different languages, flash cards, large print books etc. I can also access the local toy libraries to borrow other relevant resources.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

I will ensure your child is kept safe, secure and both emotionally and physically supported throughout the transition from home-my setting/school or pre school etc. I provide an inclusive setting and I risk assess each day to ensure safety. The children help me do this as this helps them understand the dangers and look out for one another. I am fully trained in paediatric first aid, the medicine is kept locked away and records are written in a book regarding administrating any necessary doses (timings and signed for). Everyone living in the house has been DBS checked and undertaken a safeguarding course if required. I have a file of policies that include child protection, send (Equal ops) and inclusion, along with consent forms signed by parents/carers allowing me to take observation photos etc.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

have supported a child that had speech and language problems and put mum in touch with the local specialist at the children's centre. I attend child-minding groups that run a support group on a Tues and Wed mornings. My pacey co/coordinator also supports me with any help that I have needed and points me in the right direction to seek advice from other professionals.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

I will undertake any SEND training offered to enhance my knowledge. I work closely with parents/carers and outside agencies to learn specific skills to support the childs needs. I am first aid trained and have got a level 3 diploma in childcare.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

>I will make sure that the child does not miss out on any activity and risk access each visit to make sure its wheelchair accessible prior to the outing and each individual childs requirements are met. Dietary needs are also planned if for instance we attend toddler groups/parties.

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

I live in a large detached house that has plenty of parking in the driveway and fully decked garden. The front door could be used to add a slope to for wheelchair access. I have a downstairs wc. I walk to the local school which is just along the road.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

I encourage the family and child to attend my setting just before they start to settle the child in. When the child moves on to a new setting then we visit the setting and hope that the teachers visit us at my setting along with the childs to support them transition. I encourage this to be done regularly.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

I currently offer 2/3 and 4 year funding at my setting. Additional funding can be applied for SEND children if required.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

I will support each child and decide what additional support they need if necessary. An individual learning plan will be devised for the child with input from the parent/carer and reviewed regularly to see if this has worked and what can be achieved next.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Parents will be kept up to date re their childs progress and asked for their input and ideas re any activities to extend on their childs individual interests through play.
