How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

I work with other professionals, by going to meetings and following their work plans. I would work with the child and build on their strengths to gain their self-confidence also obtain any equipment they need.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

I start by observing the child and then use E.Y.F.S. curriculum as a base to see what the child can do and at what stage they are. If a child has a preference to a toy or subject I use this to encourage their play.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

I inform you of your child’s progress in a daily diary which I encourage you as parents to comment in. We can have daily discussions or if you prefer you can phone me in the evenings. Each child also has a journal with photos, observations linked to the E.Y.F.S. and their art work is included. If I have any concerns they are firstly shared with you as parents and with agreement I will seek further advice from relevant professionals. I have many resources for development.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

I am responsible for each child’s safety and security both physical and emotional. Emotional support, self-confidence and self-esteem. Physically I am to keep them safe. I have a behaviour policy which I implement positive behaviour and encourage using praise. I risk assess all the time indoors and outside. I am first aid trained every three years. Medication is stored as directed on the container and information is recorded in my medication book and signed for. I have a level three safe-guarding certificate. Everyone in my house hold is C.R.B checked. I have a full range of policies and they are reviewed annually and signed to back this up. Written permission for outings in my car, the use of suntan lotion and cameras has been given by you as parents. I am also registered with information commissioner’s office for keeping photographic evidence on my computer.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

have been on many work shop listening about various disabilities i.e.: speech and language,Autisum, cerebal palsy, spina bifida. I have a niece with autism so have first-hand knowledge. My pacey colleagues and co-ordinators will give me advice and I would contact the specific professionals. Before I became a child-minder I worked with many disabled children in a hospital giving parents respite.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

I access specific training as the need arises to ensure my professional knowledge and development is continued. This year I have done training on speech and language, supporting communication development twos on the move and two year olds conference first aid course.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

>As a child-minder I have an inclusive policy. Before i undertake an outing I would risk assess and adapt to your childs needs where possible.

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

My home and outdoor area are wheelchair accessible.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

As much or as little settling in as you think your child needs. Initial meetings with both parents and then be led by the child’s behaviour as to how long the settling period takes. I go through my policies and permission form once the parents are happy with my services. With your permission I would share my journal of your child to the professional of the new setting and laisse with them if they have any questions.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

In my service I can provide government funded early year’s education places for eligible 2 year olds and also 3 and 4 year olds. This is a maximum of 15 hours per term week. Additional funding can be claimed for the children with special educational needs. I will work with the family to identify and obtain other specialist equipment where required; linking in with professional.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

The decision is made about how much and the type of support your child receives following discussion with you the parent and after observations and assessments that I undertake. Also, where appropriate, the 2 year old check and end of term written evaluations, for children who have not started school yet. If further advice is required I will, with permission, seek advice from my professional association for childcare and early years (PACEY) co-ordinator.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Parents will be continually consulted. As parents you will be kept up to date with your child’s progress and care. You will also have a daily dairy which is for written 2-ways communication between yourself and me. Joint working with parents is always mutually beneficial-especially for your child.
