How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Children's development is tracked using the EYFS.

The nursery SENCO works alongside Health Visitors, S+L therapist, TOPS, Portage and the Paediatrician.

The SENCO will make a referral based on evidence gained observing the child and parent views.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

Through SEN training and working in partnership with multi-agencies.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

We follow a child-led curriculum that is based on In The Moment Planning, this allows us to follow each individual child's needs and interests.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

Regular updates via email, Tapestry and in person. Parents evenings, stay and plays and additional meetings when required.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

All staff are trained to a high level and are able to deal with all children's emotional well being. Additional structures can be put into place to help with behaviour management to ensure the child's well being is met at all times.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

Portage

Paediatrician

Speech and Language therapists

TOPS

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

All staff are given on going basic training regarding SEN/D. This is covered in our monthly staff meetings.

The SENCO is trained using webinars and online courses, this is supported by using the ISSO service.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

We occasionally take the children to the local library, parks and Iron Age museum. This is only done when ratio and staffing allows. Potential SEND funding can help if the child is needs a lower ratio or 1-2-1 support.

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

We are on the lower ground level of a community centre, near the town.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

Thorough reports are completed and communication with schools, when the child is beginning the transition period of starting school. Alongside the help of any other multi agencies working with us.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

Specific SEND funding is used for the individual child's needs and interests. We also have access to a sensory room, twice a week.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

Through analysing the child's development, speaking with parents and talking to the ISSO service regarding referrals.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Parents are encouraged to be involved with their child's ongoing development at the setting. We ask all parents to give us an honest and in depth description of how the child is at home.
