How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

If i find that a child has additional needs i would talk to the parent first off and then together we would decide a route which would best help the child. This may mean involving other services who are specialised in a specific need.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

I would do my best to support the child and their family so that the childs time is enjoyable and beneficial.

I would take into consideration the views of the child and their family.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

All activities would be adapted to meet the needs and abilities of the child. This is something that is done anyway as i look after a wide age range of children.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

I will carry out termly reviews so both parties know how the child is progressing and if any extra help is needed. This will be accessible to parents so that we can discuss our thoughts and where we go moving forward. If the family have any ideas or thoughts then they are warmly welcomed.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

I am able to administer oral medicine with the consent of parents.

I do not have a downstairs toilet but personal care could be carried out downstairs .

The thoughts and feeling of the child is paramount and they would always be listened to.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

Although i have no specific expertise i feel that i am approachable and would be willing to go out of my way for any child in my care.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

I do not have any SEND training.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

Any trips etc that we go on would be thoroughly planned and parents would be informed before it took place. 

The needs and abilities of each child would be taken into consideration and planned so that all children could take part and find it enjoyable.

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

I would access any equipment needed to support the child and this would be in place before the child started at the setting.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

I would meet the child and parent before starting and offer settling in sessions to ensure that everyone is happy with the arrangements and if any alterations need to be made to accommodate the child in my setting.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

I would access resources to match the needs of the child.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

First of all i would talk to the parent regarding any concerns i may have and my thoughts on what may need to happen.I would listen to the parent and take into consideration their thoughts.I would then contact the necessary service to get the wheels in motion and to gain advice on how we will move forward and provide the best care for the child. Where needed there would be intervention from other services which can help the child progress .

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

I have an open door policy and welcome the input parents. I feel this helps all children to be the best version of their selves possible!
